Michael Lynne, Film Executive and Owner of Long Island's Bedell Cellars, Dies at 77

When Michael Lynne purchased Bedell Cellars in 2000, the East End of New York's Long Island was still a very young wine region, the first vineyard planted just 27 years prior. View clipping.

The Wines We’ll Be Drinking in 2019

"IT’S THAT TIME again, when oenophiles everywhere draw up lists of the wines they consumed with the greatest pleasure—or most pointed regret—over the last 12 months and make vinous vows for the year ahead. Perhaps they’ll resolve to drink more (or less) of wines made in certain regions or from particular grapes;"

Wine's Higher Education

"My degree imparts a broad understanding of the wine industry and all of its moving parts, and I apply what I learned in my undergraduate enology and viticulture studies every day," said Whitney Beaman, regional sales manager at Bedell Cellars in Long Island and a Cornell University alumna. "Robust, science-based wine education is key to advancing our industry."

Your guide to the most romantic wedding, proposal and date spots in the Hamptons

When David Kaplan and Jenna Gerbino first laid eyes on their wedding venue, it was love at first sight. Kaplan, who co-owns East Village cocktail mecca Death & Co., and his publicist fiancée were instantly smitten with the North Fork vineyard Bedell Cellars. More than just the acclaimed pours or stylish winery, though, it was the gorgeous surroundings that seduced them; they married there last June.

What to Do in North Fork, Long Island This Weekend

These days, it seems everyone is looking for the “non-Hamptons” or the “next Brooklyn.” Long Island’s laid-back North Fork caters to both notions. Only 75 miles east of New York City, there’s low-key seaside charm, a quiet patch of vineyards, and casual farm stands. Spend summer’s last days idling, enjoying life’s simple pleasures: sun, surf, and down-on-the farm hospitality, with nary a yellow Lamborghini in sight.

The Art of North Fork Wine Tasting

I’ve always loved Corey Creek, a small, airy, unpretentious tasting room in Southold. For years, it’s been a mere satellite of upscale Bedell Cellars and I was excited to hear it now has its own identity. Both the décor and business model have been reinvented based on a mix of market data, a sense of place and some bright ideas. It’s a bold move by the talented Bedell team, positioning Corey Creek at the cutting-edge of the evolution—away from the ol’ sniff, swirl and sip and toward laidback tastings.

Bedell Cellars Renovates Tap Room at Corey Creek

It’s not always good to keep things bottled up, and we’re not talking about feelings. Bedell Cellars completely renovated its tasting room at Corey Creek Vineyards in in Southold in May and added a wine tap.

“We wanted to do something different from our main tasting room in Cutchogue,” said Bedell winemaker Rich Olsen-Harbich. “The wine on tap allows us to serve some wines direct from the cellar that are not yet released in the bottle.”

Producing Sauvignon Blanc in New York

When one thinks of white vinifera wines made in New York state, Riesling and Chardonnay immediately come to mind. Other well-known cultivars that have been produced include Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. Now Sauvignon Blanc is becoming part of the mix. Thought to be improperly suited for New York’s cool-climate viticulture, Sauvignon Blanc initially found some success on Long Island, where the maritime influences favored Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The efforts of two producers of New York Sauvignon Blanc—Hosmer Winery of Ovid, in the Finger Lakes, and Bedell Cellars, in Cutchogue, on Long Island’s North Fork—are indicative of the variety’s budding future in the Empire State.
